If there is one thing that makes podcasters look like amateurs, it is uploading audio which forces listeners to ride the volume button. Oftentimes, you’ll hear podcasts that have one speaker at a certain level and another at a lower or higher volume. Unbalanced audio is a turnoff for potential listeners and solidifies their assumption that you are a hobby podcaster.

On FreePodcastTools.com I will teach you the ins and outs of audio leveling (which will include one thing that even some audio engineers get wrong). However, what if you simply do not want to invest the time and effort into the process that I am going to teach you?

Levelator is here to save the day. Since 2006, this free software offering has stood the test of time. Conversations Network, which developed Levelator, has had a hand in podcasting since its inception.

While Levelator is not perfect, it does a good job of evening podcast audio out because it’s part compressor, part normalizer and part limiter. Levelator allows you to drag and drop a WAV or an AIFF file from your computer into the software. The result is a file that saves to your computer with the name ‘extension of output’. Upon inspection, you will quickly notice a “fuller and fatter” WAV or AIFF file that will come in at -16 LUFS for stereo or -19 LUFS for mono.
