It can be a daunting task to select a microphone boom arm. Typically, mic boom arms only come in two forms 1) the traditional over the top style or 2) the low profile style. Which microphone boom arm style is best? What if you didn’t have to choose? The Fulaim X36 microphone boom arm allows you to have the best of both worlds. With its ability to swivel 360 degrees, you can get the traditional overhead style, plus the low profile style I prefer. The Blue Compass boom arm I used prior cast a shadow along the side of my face. This meant I had to add another light to offset that shadow. Also, the Blue Compass couldn’t hold one of my favorite microphones (the Neat King Bee II) which weighs in at a hefty 2.47 pounds. The Fulaim X36 is a great Blue Compass alternative in my opinion.
The Fulaim X36 isn’t without its own flaws though. At just under 27 inches the boom arm could be longer. And lacking a tightening knob on the ball joint limits the amount of movement you can do with heavier mics at that joint.
