PREVIOUS UPDATE BELOW:
Focusrite did not make a public announcement at PodFest 2022. This perplexing decision led to them showing the device to “a select few” for the second conference in a row. Why Focusrite wouldn’t take the opportunity to share the device live at an event their target audience is at is beyond my understanding. This means that they’ll need to spend money on reaching out to would-be consumers who are in the market for a podcast interface.
Rumors also suggest that the device is not a competitor to the RODECaster Pro family of devices, or even the Mixcast 4 and Zoom P8. Instead, it’s being suggested that this is in a different format and ballpark altogether. The suggested value of $499 would confirm that the device must be lacking some of the functionality that current podcast interfaces have.
It’s not known what time of day Focusrite will make their full announcement. We should know very quickly whether or not the device will be a viable podcasting solution for the masses. Needless to say, RODECaster Pro II presales appear to be safe from this mysterious Focusrite offering.
As you can see in the image, $499 USD is the amount the device is “valued” at. Typically, a product’s value is much more than a product’s actual retail price. Taking this into consideration, could Focusrite offer a trimmed-down device along the lines of the Zoom P4 or something totally different? Stay tuned to this page and the Free Podcast Tools YouTube Channel for updates prior to the Wednesday June 1st full announcement.
